The EU Digital COVID Certificate was the document that, during the pandemic, let people travelling between EU countries prove one of three things: vaccination against COVID-19, recovery from the disease, or a recent negative test.
Is it still valid?
The regulation behind it expired on 30 June 2023 and was not renewed. It is no longer a legal requirement anywhere in the EU, and Spain does not ask for it, or any COVID-related document, to cross its borders.
Some EU countries will still issue COVID certificates on request, mainly for people who need proof of vaccination for reasons unrelated to travel, such as employment or healthcare abroad, but this is discretionary rather than something the EU requires.
Travelling today
If you are planning travel to or from Spain, current entry requirements depend on your nationality and residence status rather than any COVID-specific document, so it is worth confirming what applies to your particular case.
